About the artist

Liz Milburn is a West Berkshire based artist, painting with an impressionistic style. She works mainly in acrylic, using watercolour and sepia crayon for her sketches, and also uses oil, pastel, charcoal and mixed media.

Liz's work is influenced by the play of light and movement in a scene. She loves to capture special or memorable moments in life and has been particularly inspired by her children and her experiences living in the south of France. She paints with a passion to recreate the spontaneity of a scene by developing paintings which flow around the canvas with a real sense of movement and feeling. Many of her pictures depict groups of people and her joy in painting figures is evident in them.

The solo exhibition “French Life” was inspired by two years whilst Liz was living in the south of France with her family. The paintings capture the essence of everyday life; narrow streets, bustling markets, vibrant pavement cafés and petanque players gathered under the trees, all bathed in warm dappled sunlight and long casting shadows. With a little imagination you might be left wondering what the people are saying or what you might see around the corner. Two of her large French cafe paintings can be seen in the West Berkshire Hospital, Newbury.

Liz exhibits her work in exhibitions and galleries across the South of England. She regularly exhibits in the West Berkshire & North Hampshire Open Studios scheme. She has also exhibited with the Galleria Corte Real in Portugal. She continues to draw and paint from her everyday experiences. Her work has been described as “full of life and energy”.
